Ok So ... I have my pet ball python who i refer to from this point forward by her name.. Lady. OK So lady has been shedding for just over a week now. She has shed her entire body except for her head... and a little bit behind her head. Ive let her rub her eyes on my hand and have been keeping her tank at a good humidit. The only thing is i have to keep her tank more on the dryer side because for some reason she gets RIs quite easily. Anyhow when i looked this up on line because this is only her 2nd shed since being my pet... she hasnt had this issue before when i looked this up online people were saying to use scotch tape and all kinds of other things. I dont want to use scotch tape she is still just a baby only about a year or so does anyone know how i can try and help my baby????????? Please let me know. Thank you
Thanx Azure :D ... I am most definately sure it is a retained eyecap. Her whole top part of her head is still covered in shed. Her whole bottom part like her jaw and what not was the first thing to come off. Her eyes are still foggy and almost look kinda like crackled glass its weird because when i can see her eyes in the light i can see that the shed has loosened on the outer parts but its still don there pretty good more towards the center. And i know it is driving her crazy because she is ALWAYS rubbing on me trying to get them off. I feel so bad for her. I will go ahead and try the soak and see if that works. im just worried about going near her head with a Qtip. I mean the snake trusts me but i dont want to hurt her at all shes my baby
and one last question she has been shedding for about 8 days her entire body shed within about 34 days and it has been just her head i am waiting on for the past 4... what is the normal shed length about?

shed skin still being stuck to the body indicates not enough humidity. at any rate when i had pythons i used to get cream baby oil and rub them down when they had trouble shedding. after a few minutes it comes right off. you dont want to coat them in it just enough to loosen the skin. there are two schools of thought on that tho i have been yelled at that its poisonous isnt for babies but w/e and things like that. but then the vet was the one who told me about it. so you could try that. or even soaking her in a container of warm water for a bit. see if that helps.

Fill about an inch to 1 1/2 inches warm water85 degrees using thermometer probe and place a towel or pillow case in water.
Place snake in water close lid let her move around for 1530 minutes. If the head shed and eyecaps dont come off by themselves gently rub the tip of your thumb across her head in a rolling motion. Dont apply pressure just roll very carefully. Same applies to eyecaps.

A drop of vegetable oil dabbed lightly on the eyecap with the tip of a qtip before rubbing with your finger might also help.
The first and most important rule is to be sure there is a retained cap before you go around trying to take it off and mess with her eyes.

Try the first method first soaking and give her something to rub on the rest of her shed should go away easily.

If you dont feel confident with a qtip soft gauze works just as good.

Normally shedding takes about a week maybe longer depending on how good your humidity is. Get a digital hygrometer and aim for around 65 of moistness.
If you cant or it doesnt seem to help soaking just after she clears up and allowing her to slither inside a damp pillow case should help future sheds.

thats quite a predicament. Usually a snake sheds from its head first. try bathing your snake in some water or a damp area only for a short time just to try and losen her skin up and get it ait more greasy so the skin will come off. Other advices are using some tweezers but this is the last resort for such a task because its the eyes. My snake shed the other day actually whilst i was cleaning her out she shed inside my t shirt so I had to put her back into her enclosure asap and then her tail didnt come off properly so i had to manually take it off. try the water or a damp space just so she has abit more lubrication on her skin.

You can buy a type of shedding medicine for Lady and that will help get the skin of her.You can ask one of the people who work at the store to help you how to use it and then that will help lady.Good luck
