Hey. I just got home from Petsmart. I bought a russian dwarf hamster. I was just wondering if their were any care or play tips about them. I have many rodents and hamsters already just this is my first russian dwarf. What is the difference between Russians and Siberians becuase I have owned Siberians before. Also I read that they like raw potato is that true. Thanks for the help.

oh my gosh my russian dwarfs LOVEE sunflower seeds and their favourite treat is those pink chocolate chips saped things they are called yogies and you can get them at petco i have five of them and they dont chew as much as some other breeds that i have cared for. they love to run on their wheel at night. alot of them like a plastic hut of some kind considering that they make nests to sleep in and they enjoy hiding seeds. if you want to play with it you can make it happy simply by letting it crawl up your arm and down the other lol. i love this breed and im sure you will too.

Russian dwarfs are pretty much like other dwarfs personalities vary from hamster to hamster.
Whatever you read was absolutely false you should never ever feed any type of hamster a raw potato.
Veggies and snacks you could give them include:
Spinach
Cucumbers without the skin
Lettuce
Broccoli
Zucchini
Boiled eggs
Organic yogurt meaning no aspartame corn syrup or any other unnatural ingredients etc.
Dont feed it carrots if it is a dwarf.
Dont feed it too much of these things at a time or it could get diarrhea.
If it doesnt finish the fresh stuff after four hours take it out so that it doesnt spoil.
