The most notable difference is sugar gliders have white on their face while flying squirrels do not. Also sugar gliders have a black stripe that usually extends down their back.
If you are certain it is a sugar glider then they eat a wide range of things they are omnivores. Offered on a four day rotation with one item offered from the following list daily:
Gut loaded mealworms Feed 1012 small 710 medium or 35 large mealworms per glider
Gut loaded crickets Feed 35 crickets per sugar glider
Boiled eggs without shells mixed with high protein/low sugar cereal like corn flakes or Special K and mixed with either honey or apple juice. One heaping tablespoon is offered per 2 sugar gliders.
Yogurt blueberry or peach 1 heaping tablespoon is offered per 2 sugar gliders
If you need more information please seek help from your local vet. He may be sick due to another reason besides just diet.
Hope I helped
