Hi
I might be able to get a ferret or a chinchilla and want to know which pet would be best for me? Wed be able to get them spayed or neutered. Which animal is generally more layed back and which gender? I know that each individual animal is different. I already have 2 hamsters and 2 parakeets. Also which is more known for biting? And also please give me any extra information. Oh also can they be litter box trained? I also heard that chinchillas are mean but I think that with a lot of handling and if you work with them theyd become nicer right? Thank you
P.S. Please dont say to look it up because I am going to do that too
Ferrets sound awesome
What are the ferret harnesses for? They live in a cage and come out for 3 hours a day why would they need a leash?

chinchilla 100 best pet ever and can live to 20 yrs i have 3 and they are great dont get a ferret they smell. chinchillas almost never bite. i have 16 pets so trust me i am the owner of many exotics. chinchillas must take dust baths and jump vary high. my 2 girls have jumped 4 feet up before. they are originally from the Andies mountains they can not get wet or they will die. that is if they get soaked my chinchillas are not mean they just need a kind and gentle owner and they must have a cage and never be left outside of cage unsupervised.they can not be liter box trained and cant be walked or brought outside they are vary fast a chinchilla is not mean unless abused

Chinchillas are a bit more laid back ferrets are HYPER. They sleep a lot but they are crazy when you let them out and get in to everything not a big deal if you ferretproof. I dont know as much about chins but they need time out too. The gender for ferrets Ive heard males are more inclined to cuddle. Biting im not sure about chins but ferrets do tend to be a bit nippy when they are young but its just like a puppy they are play fighting and dont mean to hurt they just go a little too far sometimes and theyre not impossible to nip train. Ferrets CAN use a litterbox again not sure about chins. I find they are nice mine is a little darling but they all have different temperaments

Hope there is a chin expert answering this question too because I dont know much about that half

Daniel... thats not true at all they only smell as much as any other animal and its typically from overbathing they smell more when they bath because it causes them to produce more oils that are washed away when they bath and all animals have their own smell even dogs which is not a big deal as long as you keep their living quarters clean.. my roommate has a hedgehog and it smells way worse than my ferret

A ferret harness is for walking your ferret silly You dont need one but its nice to let them play outside too. It cant just have a collar like a dog because it will slip out it needs a harness and they still slip out sometimes because they are so flexible. They dont really WALK like dogs though mine will sometimes just have to ease her the right direction its more for talking them outside to play in the grass.. Mine loves to sniff under trees and dig in the garden and thats not something they could do inside

Ferret:
We were going to get one but then the people didnt want to get rid of it but any way. they can smell but you can wash them and they can be litter trained i know i guy who had 3 and they slept in the bed with them Ha that sounds weird but yeah.

Chinchilla:
My Step mom had one in her classroom when she was a teacher and it was very nice. They give themselves dust baths and if you play with it and stuff alot and give it alot of attention it would probably be nice and affectionate like most animals are when you pay attention to them and treat them right.
but thurr both qood petss..

I dont know about chinchillas but i do know that ferrets are great pets but are nippy and hyper you might be better off getting a chinchilla if you dont like the lovely aroma of ferret after a bath i call it ferret in a meadow and the training it takes but anyway ferrets dont really go good with hamsters and stuff just keep with the rodents. Im very sorry but to me since i am a ferret fan and dont mean to be judgmental to other animals chinchillas seem boring. Let me know what you chose

4.A big cage
5.a hiding dome
6.A wheel

Theyre very different animals and it depends on which kind of a pet you want. Chinchillas are not cuddly pets who are going to want to be held for very long. Ferrets are more interactive pets that you will be able to play with. In general neither of them are particularly calm animals although there are exceptions to every rule.

Any animal will bite if it is afraid. Ferrets are more likely to bite theyll bite while playing like a cat but you can train them out of it. Ferrets are easier to litter train. Chinchillas can be litter trained for urine but they will always poop everywhere and some will end up outside the cage.

Chinchillas generally arent mean but as I said they are not cuddly. Even with a lot of handling its just not something that most chinchillas are ever going to enjoy.

http://www.chinsnhedgies.com/forums/index.php has lots of great info on chinchilla.

By the way its great to hear that you seem to be against the harness/leash idea It always annoys me when people do that as well as exercise balls. both of which can be lethal to chinchillas

Whatever you decide look into adopting. http://petfinder.com/ Both ferrets and chinchillas are social animals so it may be a good idea to look into getting an already bonded pair.
