 Post subject: why cant i put my gold fish in my tropical fish tank?

i have been given a tropical fish tank which i am very excited about. at the moment i have an indian loach and im trying to get the ph level right before adding any ne fish to the tank. but i already have two gold fish and i have asked a few people whether i can put them in with tropical fish and they said you can but wouldnt advice it. anybody know why?
