Puffer fish are predators in the wild. They are carnivores more specifically insectivores. Feed them fish food high in protein like betta food would be perfect for them tropical fish food is made for omnivores okay as for variety but their standard should be either betta food or cichlid food is fine too any carnivorous fish pellet or flakes will work. As for treats once or twice a week they love bloodworms brine shrimp tubifex worms krill mysis shrimp and baby crickets.

here are some things you should know about how to keep you puffer fish:Keep the pH around 7 and the water temperature between 75 and 82o .You can feed your Pufferfish frozen and live meaty foods such as mussels bloodworm earthworm brine shrimp and snails. I hope this helps.

Most freshwater puffers I have had will only eat live food. Some will eat blood worms as well. Its VERY VERY important that you feed your puffer snails the tiny ones from time to time ..if you do not their beak teeth will get over grown and they will not be able to eat at all Its also important to understand that even tho someone told you they are fresh water ..they are more than likely need brackish water or they will not do well.
