I own a canary and was wondering how many hours of sleep should he get. His eyes close around 8-8:30 P.M.

I suppose a canary will sleep as long as it feels like it. While you have some control over sleep habits (i.e: blanket over the cage), generally a good 8 hours will do the trick. I suppose a canary can sleep as long as you do. Of course, asking a veterinarian would help better than I even could.
