 Post subject: Do canaries make good pets? I am considering buying one. Any tips/adivce. Can they be let out of their cages?

I am thinking about getting a canary, and I was wondering if they are good pets. I had a cockatoo so I have some experience with birds as pets. I used to let my cockatoo out of its cage once in a while for exercise, can I do this with a canary?
